Tata Group companies to help West Bengal through key projects.

Setting aside the bitterness over Tata Nano's Singur ecit, the Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government has engaged two Tata group companies - Tata Consultancy Services and CMC - for key projects that seek to modernise the state's treasury management and the government's cash transfer system at the grassroots.

The Tatas had to move the Nano car project out of Singur in 2008 in the face of fierce opposition led by Banerjee over land acquisition for the plant during the Left Front's tenure. Banerjee was even labelled 'anti-industry' by some for her stand.

But now, Banerjee's government is now trying to shed this tag. A top government official has confirmed the hiring of TCS and CMC, saying both the companies have been selected through competitive bidding.
